Fertilizing and Weed Control

Why Fertilize?

Use your spare time doing things you love instead of tending to your yard. We will work with you until you are happy and satisfied with your yard. All real estate agents agree: “A home with great looking landscaping improves your property value.”

We are a fully certified, licensed, and insured company that has the education and experience to meet all your landscape needs.

The 5 step fertilizer program outlined below is recommended to keep your lawn green and healthy. When applied at the right time this program will provide the best protection for your lawn against weeds and pests. We’re a different type of Lawn Care Company. We don’t try to sell you on more and more treatments. Your lawn will still get the required nutrients it needs to stay healthy in the form of a gentle slow release formula. We also add in a dose of Iron for that dark green color. Bottom line? We give your lawn what it needs in 5 steps. While other companies are constantly trying to upsell 7, 8, and 9 annual treatments, we stick with a simple and effective 5-Step treatment program.

The 5-Step Fertilizing program

Mid-March-Late April*

Step 1. Granular pre-emergent herbicide applied for the prevention of crabgrass along with a slow release balanced fertilizer base to provide early spring green-up and recovery from winter stress.

Mid April-Late May*

Step 2. Pollinator-Friendly
slow release granular fertilizer with insect and grub control continues to provide nutrients to the lawn in preparation for summer stress. Broad leaf spot weed control is also applied as needed for trouble spots.

Mid May-Late June*

Step3.
Balanced slow release granular fertilizer with iron applied to turf combined with broadleaf weed control to improve density, color, and vigor
.

Early August-Late September*

Step 4. Balanced slow release granular fertilizer applied now to assist in the recovery from summer heat and nutrient depreciation. Spot broadleaf weed control is targeted once again at any remaining weeds.

Early October-Late November*

Step 5. High nitrogen and potassium fertilizer blend is applied to promote root growth and build carbohydrate food reserves in preparation for winter dormancy. The benefits of a good winterizer will be seen in the summer months when the grass is vulnerable from heat induced summer stress.

*Program may vary slightly according to geographical location and weather conditions.

Additional Turf Services

Preventive grub control
Granular insecticide applied during late spring or summer application to kill larvae and prevent development of damaging grubs. Grubs feed during the late summer months, often causing extensive damage to grass and garden crops. Animals that feed on grubs, such as moles, skunks, crows and blackbirds, often do further damage when grubs are present. We recommend preventative treatment for grubs in the spring, and a curative treatment anytime grubs are present.

Lawn Insect Control
Granular insecticide applied during Summer application to prevent and eliminate surface feeding insects including ants, fleas, ticks, beetles, etc.

Lime
The application is provided to keep the soil pH at the proper level for maximum turf growth. Since soils tend to become acidic (lower pH) over time. We recommend taking samples of the soil and having a nutrient analysis performed every two years to see if amendments such as lime are needed. Lime if need will only be applied based on the results of the report.

How does soil pH affect fertilizer and fertility explained by Cornell University.
